Okay, so I’ve been a little behind in my posting!  The last month or two of my pregnancy was, um…. difficult.  Finally the day arrived for my scheduled c-section, and on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 3:56 pm Matthew was finally born.  He weighed 8 lbs, 10 oz – a bit of a shock since I really didn’t think he’d be anywhere near the size of my older son Kyle, who was 8 lbs 15 oz. 

Matthew was transverse (he was sideways and came out feet first) and he ended up with some fluid in his lungs (the doctors call it “wet lung”).  He was taken to the intermediate care nursery at BC Children’s Hospital (he was delivered in the adjoining BC Women’s hospital, so he wasn’t very far away) and was in an incubator until about 9 the next morning.  We happened to go to the nursery just as the nurse was giving him his first bath and I finally got to hold him for the first time.  Thankfully he was never in immediate danger.  He was brought to my hospital room around 6:15 that evening, over 24 hours after delivery, and just as my “spinal headache” from a difficult spinal/epidural combo began.  I was told to lay flat as much as possible until the headache went away, which would last anywhere from 2 to 10 days.  It took a little over a week before it finally disappeared.  Now both Matthew and I are doing well and we are all adjusting to this new life we have in our house.  Kyle is adjusting well, and showers Matthew with kisses while at the same time tries to squeeze him ;P 

Now I have to get down to the task of finishing my freebie kit, making invitations for my son’s 3rd birthday party, and numerous thank you cards.  If only I could figure out how to keep Kyle occupied while I work on those, without him getting into everything in the room!  He is so much a boy and wants to destroy everything, or somehow manages to find those items I don’t want him playing with (like a paper piercer – how did he find that??  Yikes!).
