A quick Silhouette tutorial!!

Posted by DeAnna

I am loving Holidays In Hand so far.  One of the downloads Jessica Sprague has included is some word dates to go with our albums that match the daily prompts.  I love them, but I’m going to be doing a hybrid of digital and paper for my album.  I wanted to make some of them into paper but I didn’t want to print it out and then take the time to cut some intricate stuff.  So, instead, I’m going to use my Silhouette!  Yes, you can do that!!!  Oh, and then I can use whatever colour I want too!  ;D

It’s pretty easy actually – I know you’re like huh?? Easy??

Basically you can take any image (.jpg, .png, .pdf, .psd, etc.) and save it as a bitmap image (.bmp) using Photoshop or whatever program you use.  A vector shape from Illustrator, or a .png would probably work the best as they are usually cleaner and higher quality, with smoother edges.  The better the quality of the image you want to convert to your Silhouette, the better the results will be.

When you open a document in your Silhouette, you will have a large green square on the top menu bar on the far right of your window.  You will want to open a blank document (this image was taken after I had converted my words to be cut out – oops!)

If you click on that icon, it opens TWAIN, which will allow you to open an image that you have saved as a bitmap (File, Load Image, then navigate to the folder where you saved your .bmp image), and then click on the Convert to Outline button.

Once you’ve converted to outline this is what you will see:

You can then edit or choose the Paste then Exit button and it inserts your image onto your blank Silhouette document ready to be cut out as usual!  What did I tell you – EASY!!!  Now I just need to figure out how to do my own print and cut ;-p

Go try it.  Now.  Yes, you – go!!

Another Template Freebie…

Posted by DeAnna

Well, it’s been a week!  Yikes :(   While I was pregnant with Matthew I ended up with a blocked gland in my left eyelid.  It never really bothered me – until last Sunday.  My whole eyelid swelled up and I could barely open my eye.  I went to the doctor who gave me some eye drops, but it still took a few days to fix itself.  And, of course, I had dropped my new glasses off to get the prescription changed, so I could barely see at all!

Well, it’s finally better and I have my glasses back!  Yay.  So, I created a new template to say sorry for not posting!

template-5

You can download the template here.

I haven’t had time to do a sample layout using the template, but I’m working on it.  I’d love to see what you do with the template, so please link up in the comments so I can take a look :D

Holidays In Hand starts today over at JessicaSprague.com.  Registration is open until midnight tonight, eastern time!  I am so looking forward to it!!

I’ve decided my goals for this holiday season are: to cherish the quiet moments with my sons; try to do more things as a family; and continue some of the traditions my husband and I started with our kids, like going to the tree farm together to cut down our tree, trying to go snowshoeing, going to Bright Lights at Stanley Park, and of course, celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary.  We got married in December to avoid baseball season (there’s no way I would make my husband miss umpiring so we could get married), and so Rob could see some winter ball in the Dominican Republic where we spent our honeymoon.  That was an adventure and a half, but I’ll save that story for another time!

Anyway, why don’t you join in the fun and register for Holidays In Hand if you haven’t already!!  See you there…

Digital Scrapbooking Day FREEBIE!!

Posted by DeAnna

Well, since it is digital scrapbooking day, I thought I would share another template with you. AND, there are two bonus elements in the template ;-P Check it out:

template_04

The plastic dots and the bones masks are included!  Here’s a quick layout I did using the template.  The beauty of a template is it is just a jumping off point.  I changed the template up a bit by moving the dots and including one of the tags from my Overcome Kit.  I recoloured the inside stroke on the tag to match the green in the Halloween Kit, and voila, it fits perfectly!

You can download the template here.  If you would like a tutorial on how to use a template, go here.

Enjoy ;-D

Also, last chance to vote for your favourite Christmas colour scheme – you can win a $5 gift certificate to Little Dreamer Designs by posting a comment and telling me which one is your favourite!  Go here to post your comment.  The contest closes tomorrow at noon, pacific time.  I’ll announce the winner Monday morning.

Remember to vote to win…

Posted by DeAnna

I will hold the contest for the $5 gift certificate open until Sunday at noon, pacific time.  I’ll announce the winner on Monday morning.  Little Dreamer Designs has some fantastic stuff so make sure you comment here to win the $5 gift certificate!

Also, Ali Edwards is offering a spot for one person and a friend of their choice into Shimelle Laine’s Journal Your Christmas.

So, head on over and make a comment on Ali’s blog and you may win!

I’m really excited for Holidays In Hand to start.  I was contemplating doing a December Daily album similar to Ali Edwards’ but I was unsure where to start and how much I wanted to do in advance.  I think Holidays in Hand will help with that, and get the ball rolling for me.  At least this year I’m not pregnant and in a major mental block!  I had a hard time focusing on Stories in Hand because of it ;-(

I’ve had a massive cold the last few days, but I’m starting to feel better.  I downloaded my halloween and pumpkin patch photos last night, so I’ll have a layout and a new template soon.

halloween-preview-web

Here it is, as promised.  A new free digital scrapbooking kit just in time for all your Halloween photos!  The kit contains 5 cardstock, 10 patterned papers, 6 word art, and 9 stickers (with drop shadow).  You can download it here.

Again, this is for personal use only, not for commercial use.  Please post a link in the comments section if you use the kit – I’d love to see your work!

I’ll also have another template for you in a couple of days, once I download all my halloween pics.

I’m going to work on a Christmas kit, and a baby boy kit next.  I have so many ideas running through my head now, and with my new MacBook Pro, it just makes it so much easier to get it done.

Enjoy the kit and happy scrapping!
