Vancouver’s 10K Sun Run – Happy Mother’s Day!
So, I’ve been sick with a stomach bug the last 5 days, and today I had to do the Sun Run. A 10 kilometre run/walk through the streets of Vancouver. My husband and I planned to do the walk together, but after 3K or so I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up the pace we had set. He finished the race in approximately 1 hour, 17 minutes. I finished exactly where I had originally planned to finish – at 1 hour, 30 minutes. It was hard and I pushed myself in a way I had never done before and I am so proud that I finished it. I kept thinking of Bob on The Biggest Loser and what he would say – finish what you started!!
Typically I am not a runner, or an exerciser. I used to hate exercising. But after two kids and my metabolism changing, I knew I had to change my eating and exercising habits. To date I’ve lost 39.5 pounds (since August 1, 2009). I didn’t do much, stopped drinking regular coke and switched to diet, ate less junk food and more real food. I feel much better, have more energy, and my crohn’s has been doing pretty good (even with eating whole grains and more veggies and salads – which is saying a lot!). I didn’t bring my camera so I don’t have any pictures but I plan on taking pictures of my race bib and my champion chip which is the device they use to record your official time (so that your start and end times are triggered by you actually crossing the start/finish line, which is pretty cool). We hope to make this a yearly event, and maybe as Kyle and Matthew get older they will join us. I want them to be active.
Friends of ours took our kids for a few hours for us while we ran the race so I wouldn’t have to push the stroller and start at the back of the pack. We met up with them after the race to buy them lunch in thanks. Then we bought some dirt for the front garden which I started about two weeks ago, we came home and I gardened for a few hours and now I’m watching the Canucks hockey game. Hopefully they can beat the Blackhawks but they’ll have to do it two more times in a row after this game to win the series.
I’ll post a picture of the invitations to Matthew’s birthday and the mother’s day card I made for my mom in the next couple of days (after I recover!!) I’m very excited about both of those – and still am in disbelief that Matthew’s birthday is just around the corner!!
