A birthday card for mom…

Posted by DeAnna

So, I wanted to post this sooner, but it was a surprise for my mother whose birthday is today. I love this card and it uses two of my new stamps, and my new Tim Holtz die AND some cork that I found at Michaels super cheap. It’s really thin, about cardstock thin, so you have to be careful with it ;D I used the Hero Arts friendship definition background stamp with Ancient Page sandalwood ink, then distressed it with Ranger Antique Linen distress ink and my paper distresser then inked some more. I used pop dots to adhere this panel to my cardstock, and I cut it slightly smaller than my white cardstock, which I distressed with some more Antique Linen and then swiped Ancient Page chocolate ink on the edges. I used chocolate Memento ink to ink up the large flower patterns from Hero Arts and bamboo leaves Memento ink to stamp the leaves. I colored in with my copic markers and used my mother’s favorite color – red! I love how they turned out. There really isn’t a stem included in the flower stamp set, so I was trying to think of what I wanted to use, and I decided to use buttons!! I love it! I finished it off with some natural jute twine from WalMart and a happy birthday sentiment from Hero Arts essential messages set (which I cut in half so I could stamp one word on top of the other). On the inside I stamped the “bring on the cake” message from essential messages as well.

Here’s a close up of the flower. I stamped the flower twice, coloring in the center portion only on one image, and the entire flower on the other one. I cut each flower out (the one I colored in the center I cut out only the portion I colored). I curled the edges of the entire flower backwards to lift it off the card, and curled the center portion of the flower outward to give it some more dimension. I used a Bo Bunny button for the center and filled the button holes with diamond stickles. I curled the leaves slightly after I cut those out too.

I think it looks amazing – what do you think???

  1. Mitch Said,

    Hey De!

Ok, well not being a scrapbook person most of what you said reminds me of the charlie brown teacher, all i hear is blah blah lol, however it’s a wonderful great gorgeous beautiful amazing card!

I love the cork! it reminds me of when someone is painting/drawing a scene, using different mediums like oil and ink…. great definition with the cork. The flower i see as your mom, large, beautiful without all the fuss and big and strong (ok she’s not big but you know what i’m getting at)

anyways i love it and i’m sure she did too!

  2. DeAnna Said,

Ha ha ha! That’s funny – lol love charlie brown ;D I completely understand – when Rob talks like a techie, I glaze over… Not that I’m computer illiterate or anything it’s just totally over my head all the networking acronyms! Thanks for the compliment. I’ve really started to branch out and spread my crafting wings and I’m loving every minute of it. Who knew? Seriously?? And I understand exactly what you mean about the flower – strong and beautiful and amazing – I don’t know how she did it :D

  3. Francine Said,

DeAnna, This is gorgeous. I love how you did the flower, and the cork and buttons add wonderful dimension to the whole thing. I’m sure your mother will love it too.

  4. DeAnna Said,

Thank you! I was so thrilled with the way it turned out, especially the cork and the buttons ;D In my newest kit that I’ve been designing I’ve created a cork die cut piece with “stamped” images on it – just like what I did on this card – I can’t wait to show it to everyone ;D
