A messy craft room

Posted by DeAnna

Last night Kristina Werner posted pictures of her messy craft room.  I completely agree with everything she wrote!  I would love to have the perfect craft room with everything completely organized, neat and tidy.  However, real life isn’t necessarily like that and my life is not neat and tidy and organized (very far from it), and so my craft room will probably never look like that either ;D  Here are some photos of my craft room:

This is my craft desk just as I am starting a project.  I had actually tidied up a bit after my last project (since these are for classes I try to keep everything separated). The class I’m working on is using the My Mind’s Eye Stella & Rose [Mabel] line.  I love it, it’s totally gorgeous!!

These are some projects waiting for me to get to them on top of some of my storage bins.

My Ikea Expedit cube which has my paper, stickers, projects I’m working on, and some of my tools.

My messy under desk area where I keep towels for misting and some spare bins.

An old CD tower put to good use for my punches, inks, embossing powder, adhesive, buttons, etc.

Another view of my desk where I have my Copics, pens, colored pencils, paint and paint brushes stored hanging on the wall and my poor Silhouette which hasn’t seen much use lately…

And last a view of the right side of my desk which has some completed projects, some of the tools I’ve been using frequently, and a drawer storage tray which houses my most used tools like scissors, bone folder, paper piercer, sanding tools, adhesive, etc…

Before I go I thought I would share a super simple card I created based on the challenge (which apparently I missed since it expired yesterday ;D  Oh, well, next time!) over at Lawnscaping Challenge site which is to use a single splash of color.  I colored in the heart and the flower by tapping my Fired Brick Distress Ink on my craft mat and then spritzing it with a mix of Perfect Pearls and water.  Then I used a fine paintbrush to color them in.  It’s super shimmery in real life!

I am so happy that Precious Memories is carrying Lawn Fawn.  I seem to buy one stamp set every time I go into the store ;D  I also used a bunch of Lawn Fawn stamps on an upcoming class for May using the American Crafts Hello Sunshine line.  They are awesome and I can’t wait to show you guys!  AC and Lawn Fawn really is a match made in heaven ;D

On the move…

Posted by DeAnna

Another layout from the crop last month.  I love this series of photos from just around Matthew’s first birthday when we were camping in Victoria.  It was the first time he stood up all on his own.  Of course, just after that he fell and smacked his nose and cried a lot!  But I wanted to focus on the accomplishment not the failure, so I used the photos in order and highlighted the moment he stood without holding on. ;D

I used the TPC Studios line Transportation.  The blue/green paper at the bottom is a die cut sheet and I traced the pattern onto the solid green paper with the words “On the move…” on it.  I hand cut the scalloped sky from one of the strips on one of the papers.  It is one strip with two scalloped layers on it, so I cut both and layered them one on top of the other for more dimension and added a striped strip under it.  I then used some of the coordinating ribbon and some Dear Lizzy + AC thickers and my AC Precision Pen to do some hand journaling and that was it.

I also wanted to quickly share pictures of the two classes scheduled for April at Precious Memories.  The first is a layout class with three single-page layouts, and the second is a card class featuring handmade flowers.

My boys…

Posted by DeAnna

Just another quick post today with a layout from the crop.

DSC_8555

Please excuse the poor photo – I was running out of daylight and had to use a lamp.  These two are so cute, and I love seeing them having fun together.  Most of the time they are fighting but sometimes we get these awesome memories of the two of them together.  The two of them would squish onto a Diego ride-on toy and ride around the house together.  I just had to get pictures of it, both of them giving me the cheesy squinty-eyed grin ;D

I used a 3 Bugs in a Rug line called Snips and Snails – I used the papers and some of the stickers too.  I also used my EK Success large border punch (I told you I have used it more than my other punches combined!), a Tim Holtz On The Edge Sizzix die, and some ribbon from my stash.  I added some hand journaling on the side using my American Crafts precision pen and that was it.  Simple but effective and I love it.

April class calendar…

Posted by DeAnna

Well, the class calendar for April at Precious Memories is up!  Welcome to any new visitors this week! I hope you enjoy what you see. I’m so excited and I hope you will all come out and try my classes. I have two classes in April; a card class featuring beginner handmade flower techniques and a layout class doing three single-page layouts.

Today I also am sharing another of the layouts I did at the crop:

I used a sheet of BoBunny double dot paper as the background, some Dear Lizzy + AC thickers,  and two sheets from the 6×6 BasicGrey Jovial paper pad.  The rest was all from the Jovial sticker sheet, glazed brads and the super cute little birdie from the woolies.  Super simple and easy and I love the happy feel it has.  I used my foam applicator tool and some Antique Linen Distress Ink to tone down the blatant whiteness of the thickers and help them blend in a bit.  To do that I use my craft mat from Ranger and lightly stick the letters I’m using onto it.  When I’m done, I can easily peel them off the craft mat and add them to my layout.  I added a few brads to the center of the large snowflakes and on the date tag, and just layered snowflakes, presents and border stickers and added the die cut shaped sticker and wrote my journaling on it.  I decided not to use more of the patterned paper simply because Jovial has a more sophisticated look and yet I still wanted this layout to be fun and whimsical.  Using the sticker elements kept it whimsical (we are dealing with a first christmas ;D), and leaving a lot of “white space” (blank areas that give the eye a place to rest) helped keep it from looking heavy.

Thanks for looking!  I hope to see some of you next month!

Oh, and happy St. Patrick’s day, and a very happy birthday to my dad!!  ;D

1st Anniversary layout

Posted by DeAnna

Another layout I did at the crop that I totally love.  I think it’s my second favorite layout behind my weight loss layout.  Check it out:

DSC_8546

I used mostly Moxxie papers and rub ons, with a few Making Memories products (the flocked snowflake vellum and the die cut sticker), Dear Lizzy + American Crafts thickers, a chipboard 1 and some ribbon I had in my stash and an EK Success large border punch.  I LOVE that punch.  I bought it the morning of the crop and I’ve used it more than I have used most of my other punches combined already.  Fabulous!! I simply adhered some white cardstock behind the punched piece of paper so it didn’t have two different papers showing through behind it.  I wanted it to have a cleaner look.  I’ve seen a number of layouts where people have punched white cardstock and layered patterned papers behind the circles – it’s a fabulous look and that’s what inspired me to add the white behind it.  I did a lot of layering, and I loved the curve in one of the patterned papers so I cut along the curve and then traced the curve onto my vellum and cut it to match.  So instead of one being on top of the other they actually butt up against each other.  I also really like pleating and scrunching paper and ribbon right now so I ran the ribbon through my Xyron sticker maker and adhered most of it straight and then pleated and scrunched the rest of the ribbon.  I love the look and how it gives an extra bit of dimension and interest.

For our first anniversary we went snowshoeing in Whistler and it was beautiful and so much fun.  We’ve tried to go every year around our anniversary since then, albeit with a few exceptions for pregnancies and illnesses.  In 2009 we even bought Kyle his own snowshoes for Christmas but we haven’t been able to use them yet!  Oh, well, soon I hope.

Thanks for looking!

Crop Layouts…

Posted by DeAnna

DSC_8580

I finally got around to photographing some of my layouts I completed at the crop.  (The layout isn’t actually crooked! Inking the paper curls the edges slightly while the ink is drying and I didn’t think to use removable adhesive to attach it to the background I was using. Next time!) I love the simplicity of this layout (and the fact that I’ve now done two layouts total about my wedding, and we’ve been married 7 years now!).  I used one of the Pink Paislee Parisian Anthology papers and inked it up with Broken China, Tumbled Glass and Faded Jeans distress inks and then spritzed with some Perfect Pearls mixed with water using my Mini Mister.  I love this paper because of the gorgeous butterfly (which is so detailed and very pretty in real life), and the music notes and all the text on it.  I love how inking it up reveals the embossed resist areas.  It really is fabulous ;D  I really wanted the paper and the photo to take center stage.  I layered some velum I had in my stash in a block under my photo and journaling.  I took one of the journaling blocks from one of the papers in the Parisian Anthology, which had a perfect spot for the date, and then I tore out one of the note papers from a Making Memories journaling book and wrote my journaling.  I added some gems, and some lace I’ve had in my sewing kit for probably 17-18 years and finally used for something other than a halloween outfit ;D

The photo is from our wedding (of course) and the pattern and texture were added as part of the Photo Frame Ups and Special Effects class I took at JessicaSprague.com a few years ago.

I’ll share another layout on Thursday.  One thing I want to note about these layouts is that I wanted to keep them simple, quick and easy with simple layering, clustering, white space and limited die cutting (for the first time since I got my Silhouette I didn’t even use it at the crop!  I decided I wouldn’t fiddle trying to find the right element to cut out and taking the time to size it right, etc.  I did use my Sizzix though.).  The only complicated layout I did was my weight loss journey layout which took me quite a bit of time to get all the layers in the right order.  I also decided that I would just “glue it down” and not stress about how it looked or making each layout perfect.  Nothing in life is perfect.  My layouts don’t have to be perfect and rarely are.  My style is evolving and I’m trying to just get as much scrapbooking done as possible – it’s all about the memories and if I don’t write it down or scrapbook it I probably won’t remember it.  That’s part of my mantra this year – just get it done!  Anyway, I’ll step off my soapbox now ;D  Back soon!
